The Soumak Weave

And Dirty Dancing was on...

Was a difficult day and I just couldn't shake the blues off. Had been a productive day just felt low. And as I sat infront of the telly and Dirty Dancing came on, I got an urge to pull out my loom. Not a fan of the telly but don't mind Dirty Dancing in the background.

Watching the cocooned Baby (played by Jennifer Gray) sharing the love and standing up against injustice, I found myself picking colours inspired by these qualities. I am always fascinated by what different colours mean to different people depending on environment, culture, and background.

After having weaved for an hour or so, I felt the grey sky had cleared and my mood had lifted. I realised that weaving brought me back into the moment where there was no room for worries or regrets. Engrossed in my weaving, I decided I wanted to learn the "braid" weave known as the Soumak Weave. I find it simply beautiful and the technique is quite skillful and I enjoyed it.

I finished my weave off with a bit of gold, maybe because Baby had a wealthy upbringing or maybe because every cloud has a gold lining in my sky...

This is my Baby Weave. I hope you like it.
