Sewing

My first sewing project was a bed for my little boy.

The things we do for our fur babies!

Bought some neutral coloured canvas about 1 metre long and 80cm wide. My mum had an old sofa cushion that we were going to "dress" and voila, a doggy bed.

My mum has taught herself how to sew. This day she was to be my teacher.

First we had to cut the fabric to size and next we had to sew it together roughly by hand. I think these are called guides. There was a thickness to the cushion so we had to create corners for it and then we tested that it fit.

Next she showed me how to wind the colour thread we wanted onto the bobbin and then how to thread the sewing machine.I then had some practice goes at sewing other bits of fabric to get accustomed to pulling the fabric from behind while holding it taut from the front but also adjusting the speed to a speed I was comfortable with.

I found it ok to sew it together. Guess am just a natural!

Finally we had to sew on push buttons and it was ready.

This was all ready in anticipation of his arrival the next day. I had flown to Greece before him as due to the fact that he is an English Bulldog, a brachycephalic dog breed, he is unable to fly (many airlines won't take the responsibility) and so he had to be driven down to Greece all the way from the UK over 4 days!

I was a proud mummy as I was told he was an excellent passenger but you can imagine my excitement upon his arrival as it was the longest I had been away from him ever since he was a baby; 3 weeks!

So his bed was ready and so was I!

I have to let you know that he never sits on his bed! So I used it instead to sunbathe on the balcony in February; yes, yes, the beauty of living in Greece! And only then did he climb on it with me.
